Those were
the days of the hand wound gramophone, when folks loved to listen to lyrical
songs of melodious singers like Noorjahan, Suraiya, Kanan Bala and Pankaj
Malik. The year was 1946. The place: Itwari the commercial hub of
Nagpur. Into this scene entered late Shri Champalalji Taori, who started
his first business with a humble forty rupees investment and a small 200
sft. shop at New Itwari Road. The business was Sound Service - hiring out
of the hand wound gramophones for playing of popular music through loudspeakers
at weddings and social gatherings.
Entry into Consumer Electronics
Business
In the year
1981, the 1946 shop on New Itwari road was shifted to a new showroom near
the City Post Office. Shri Champalal Taori's sons Mr. Satyanarayan and Mr.
Santosh, who were still studying, started assisting their father in the business.
While the sons completed their studies, the business now called Taori TV
& Radios, took on a new dimension with the addition of radios and later,
televisions thanks to the then rapidly developing broadcasting
network.
Videocon
Business
Taori TV & Radios became a Videocon dealer in October 1992. The
Videocon partnership gave them a never-before opportunity to market the country's
widest and most popular range of consumer electronics & home appliances.
Videocon's full hearted support contributed significantly to their rapid
growth to a phenomenal level of Rs. 26 Crores. Today, Taori TV & Radios
is not only Vidharbha's largest dealer, but also one of Videocon's largest
dealers in the country, dealing in every product line of the company, excelling
in sales in every category. Since the unfortunate passing away of Shri.
Champalalji Taori in 1994, the mantle of the business has shifted to his
sons: Mr. Satyanarayan , who handles the retail sales and Mr. Santosh who
handles the wholesale and distribution operations. Taori TV & Radios
has a 1300 sft. Showroom in Itwari, a 4000 sft. Showroom in Gandhi Putla,
in addition to a large godown and a 2000 sft. fully equipped service centre.
Plans are afoot to set up a prominent showroom in the heart of the trading
area of Nagpur. The business employs four sales and ten service personnel.
The story of Taori TV & Radios is indeed a saga of enterprise, diehard
dedication and exemplary hard work, that spawned success: from humble beginnings
in a bygone era of the hand wound gramophone all the way to
today's era of digital electronics. The show goes on
