FRUIT STAINS
a) Apply some salt to the stain.
b) Pour hot water onto it from a height.

GREASE STAINS
a) Add a teaspoon of washing soda to a bucket of hot water.
b) Dip grease-stained cotton clothes in this solution.
c) Scrub stains away.
d) If the clothes are unsuitable for hot water wash, simply cover the stain with a blotting paper and then iron it.

GUM STAINS
a) Dip the stained clothes in water.
b) Treat with vinegar or 10% acetic acid.

GRASS STAINS
a) Apply some soapless shampoo on stain.
b) Rinse with water.

OIL STAINS
a) Place pieces of blotting paper over and under the stain.
b) Iron over them to remove stain.

PAAN STAINS
1. a) Soak the clothes in cold water for an hour.
b) Wash with detergent.

2. For persistant stains, rub on some bleaching powder.

3. To lighten stubborn stains, rub on some curd or lime (chunna or calcium oxide).

RUST STAINS
A little bit of effort is required to remove these stains.
1.
a) Scrub some salted lemon juice on the stain.
b) After ½ an hour wash and dry in sunlight.
c) If the stain persists, repeat the whole process again.

2.
a) Boil a cup of rice in 2 litres of water for ½ hour.
b) Filter and save the rice water.
c) Soak the stained cloth for ½ hour in rice water.
d) Wash as normal.

MOULD STAINS
a) Rub lemon juice and salt into the stain and leave for an hour.
b) Wash normally.

MUSTARD STAINS
1.
a) Simply swab some warm glycerine onto the stains.
b) Sponge off with water.

2. Remove deeper stains with denatured alcohol.

NAIL POLISH STAINS
Use some nail polish remover to get rid of these stains instantly.

OIL AND GHEE STAINS
1.
a) Dip clothes in a solution of washing soda and hot water.
b) Clean with soap.
c) Dry in sunlight. (However use chloroform for silk, woollen, and coloured clothing as soda-mixed water is too rough on them).

2. Rub talcum powder or chalk into the stain. Place cloth between two layers of blotting paper. Press with warm iron.

GUTTER SPLASH STAINS
a) Wet the clothes.
b) Apply some soapless shampoo to the stain.
c) Scrub with brush.
d) Wash stains away.

HAIR- DYE STAINS
1.
a) Wet the clothes.
b) Rub some warm glycerine into the stain.
c) Scrub with brush.
d) Wash with water.
e) Apply some drops of 10% acetic acid.
f) For persistent stains repeat the process.

2. For deeper stains, apply 3% hydrogen peroxide solution and wash with water. But do not use this solution on delicate Fabric.

ICE CREAM STAINS
a) Apply some borax to the stain.
b) Wash away with cold water.

INK STAINS
1. To remove Fresh ink stains :
a) Apply soap to the stain.
b) Dip in lukewarm water for sometime.
c) Wash away the stain.

2. For denser stains :
a) Use some oxalic acid on the stain.
b) Alternatively scrub it with some lemon and then wash with soap.

3. Red ink stains can be easily washed away with cold water.

IODINE STAINS
a) As iodine evaporates quickly in sunlight, remove the stain by dipping in water & drying in sunlight.
b) Alternatively spirit or hypo can also be used.

KEROSENE STAINS
Simply wash away with soap and water.

LIPSTICK STAINS
a) Gently rub the stains with glycerine.
b) When the colour appears to lift, soak the garment in a mild solution of warm water, 2/3 drops of ammonia & a little shampoo for an hour.
c) Rinse in warm water and wash normally.

BALL-POINT STAINS
a) Soak the spot with eau-de-cologne.
b) Rub with a coarse dry cloth.
c) Wash as normal.

BOOT POLISH STAINS
Apply chloroform to affected area to remove stains.

BLOOD STAINS
1. Stains on cotton clothes can be easily removed by dipping in cold water and washing with soap.
2. For dried blood stains or stains on silk or woollen clothes, add some ammonia to the water used for washing.

COAL TAR STAINS
1. Scrub stains with petrol or kerosene and clean-off with soap and water.
2. For silk and woollen clothes dab with petrol-soaked-cotton to evaporate the stains.

COCOA & CHOCOLATE STAINS
1. Remove fresh stains by quickly washing with hot water.
2. Use a cotton swab dipped in chloroform to absorb stains off silk and woollen clothes.
3. Use bleaching powder for older stains.
4. Alternatively scrape-off as much as possible, Sponge with warm soapy water, rinse with cold water and wash.

DIRT STAINS ON COLLARS & CUFFS
1.
a) Coat the dirty collar and cuffs with a thick layer of talcum powder and scrub them well.
b) Keep overnight.
c) Wash the stains away the next morning.

2. If you're using a washing machine, be sure to first button up the shirt and fold its collar, before the wash.

TOBACCO & PAAN MASALA STAINS
1.
a) Sponge stains with a solution of alcohol and water.
b) Next soak the cloth in warm soapy water.
c) Rinse well.

2. You can also use some bleach on persistent stains.

TOMATO SAUCE STAINS
a) Thoroughly wash the stained area with water.
b) Apply glycerine.
c) Rinse well.
d) If stains remain, apply hydrogen peroxide and rinse.

VARNISH STAINS
1. Remove fresh varnish stains with turpentine or chloroform.
2. Soak older stains in chloroform/turpentine for sometime before washing.

TURMERIC STAINS
a) Make a paste of water and soap and rub it on both sides of the stained cloth.
b) When dry, pour hot water on it from a height of about 2 metres.
