Videocon India Festival '99
On February 10, 1999, Videocon launched a very unique
sales scheme called India Festival 99 across the world
markets of Middle East, Far East, Japan, Europe, Africa, USA, Canada, UK
and Australia. The focus of the offer was on countries which have a substantial
population of Indian origin, such as the US, Canada, UK, Dubai, Oman, Kuwait,
and Uganda. While briefing press on this new scheme Mr. S.P. Molasi, Vice
President - International Operations said We have launched India Festival
99 in the Gulf region,
providing convenience
for the 1 million NRI community. Under the scheme, NRIs can walk into any
of the showrooms of the vast dealer network of Videocon, take a look at the
wide range of products, select the one they would like to have for their
homes back in India, pay for it, and get the items delivered anywhere in
India. With this scheme NRIs need not go through the hassles of packing
and transporting Consumer durables all the way from their overseas locations
to India, since delivery is arranged by Videocon free of cost to any destination
in India. The India Festival 99 scheme was appreciated as a very powerful
foreign exchange earner for the country, and received a special approval
from Reserve Bank of India. The response to the scheme was so fantastic that
US$ 1 million sales was achieved within a month in the U.A.E. market alone.
No wonder this two month scheme has been extended further.
